In partnership with the History Channel and Charter/Spectrum Communications, Carson High School will host a ‘Take a Vet to School’ event in the school’s library, Wednesday, Nov. 7, in honor of Veteran’s Day.

Carson High School’s Lieutenant Commander Dan Meyer (Navy), NJROTC instructor, will moderate a panel of local military veterans where more than 200 students will be educated on the five branches of the U.S. Military and the general mission of each branch. Veterans in the panel will discuss their primary roles in the military and brief stories before opening up the discussion for questions and answers.

The first class of 65-70 students will sit in on the panel discussion at 8:00 a.m. followed by a second class at 9:48 a.m. and a third class following lunch at 12:04 p.m.

Panelist will include the following

  • Carson City Mayor Robert Crowell (Navy)
  • Marty Drumm (Navy)
  • Yette De Luca, work-based learning coordinator for the Carson City School District (Air Force)
  • Vicky Fogelman (Air Force)
  • Ben Stryffeler (Marines)
  • Ryan Gerchman (Marines)

Other government officials in attendance include the following.

  • Assemblyman Al Kramer
  • U.S. Congressman Mark Amodie or Constituent Service Representative Bob Gastonguay
  • U.S. Senator Dean Heller or Ashley Jonkey, state director
  • A representative from Governor Brian Sandoval’s office
  • Senator Ben Kieckheffer (was sent an invitation and may attend)
