In celebration of National Digital Learning Day Thursday, Feb. 28, state officials at the Nevada Legislature will recognize and introduce students from Carson Middle School (CMS) and Eagle Valley Middle School (EVMS) at 11:00 a.m. on the Senate floor and 11:30 a.m. on the Assembly floor for their efforts in infusing technology as part of their daily educational experience.

Students representing CMS include (alphabetically by last name), Jessica Artz (7th grade), Joey Bertrand (7th grade), Alayna LaPorte (8th grade), Ethan Long (7th grade), Rustam Thind (8th grade), Emily Tran (7th grade) and Jacob Xie (8th grade) with Educators Rob Hostler, CMS technology teacher, Tiffany Rankin, CMS 6-8th grade leadership teacher, and Marjorie Rispin, CMS Nevada Ready 21 digital learning coach. Students representing EVMS include Jacob Budd (7th grade), Anakin Guzzetta (7th grade), Logan Kenison (8th grade) and Alexis Robinson (8th grade) with Educators Lisa Stocke-Koop, EVMS STEM/smart lab/technology teacher and Wade Greenlee, EVMS Nevada Ready 21 digital learning coach. Additionally, grade-school students representing E.W. Fritsch Elementary School include Malena Oakie (5th grade) and Drew Olson (5th grade) with Educator Irene Waltz, technology teacher, who will showcase computer science skills with mini robots.

Digital Learning Day started in 2012 as a grassroots effort and quickly blossomed into a world-wide celebration of learning with technology. Today, the event promotes the effective use of technology to enhance the student learning experience.

The term ‘digital learning’ is a broad and encompassing ideal that includes various technology implementations, including EdTech tools, applications, Project Based Learning and blended learning instructional models. The goal is to engage students, personalize their learning experience and enable anywhere, anytime learning opportunities to ensure all students reach their full potential.

The Nevada Ready 21 (NR21) initiative includes school districts throughout the state who are committed to implementing technology in schools every day. NR21’s participation in Digital Learning Day is a celebration of the efforts, projects and technology that is put into our classrooms daily.
