When Eagle Valley Middle School English Teacher Michaela Filocamo learned her 5-year-old nephew was diagnosed with Leukemia, she felt impressed to make a bold statement in his name to honor and support him and other children battling cancer by donating her hair and funds raised (by her students, families and school colleagues) to the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation. Four Carson City Teachers Earn Grants from Delta Kappa Gamma

Carson Middle School English Teacher Rhonda Holloway, Seeliger Elementary Fourth Grade Teacher Toni Nielson and Mark Twain Fourth and Second Grade Teachers Kylie Jensen and Alyson Haas were recent recipients of the “Apple Award” from the Delta Kappa Gamma NU Chapter in the total amount of $500. Carson High Ski Team Competes at State, Sends Two to Nationals to Win

The Carson High School (CHS) Senators ski team wrapped up its 2024 campaign by qualifying for state and sending two to compete at nationals. Thomas Callister and Madalyn Lind Smith represented CHS at nationals as members of the Tahoe Basin race team. Free School Meals Ending, Families Must Apply Before May 24, 2024

State funding for free school meals including breakfast and lunch will end May 30, 2024. In an effort to support student meals in school, the Carson City School District Food and Nutrition Services department is asking parents and families to apply for free and reduced meals (educational benefits). Students requiring school-provided meals, need families to complete the educational benefits application online before Friday, May 24, 2024 (paper forms available through school offices).   READ MORE...

Carson High School Speech and Debate had a busy March, competing in three separate State Championships and districts, including the Sagebrush District Tournament, a national qualifier, where Reno High School hosted 16 teams, competing to earn entries to the National Speech and Debate Association Tournament this June. Five CHS HOSA Students Take State, 35 Others Shine in Competition

Carson High School (CHS) Career and Technical Education (CTE) HOSA – Future Health Professionals – had 42 students attend the State Leadership Conference last week. The students competed in 16 different events. Carson High Students Admire Latino Artist Guillermo Bert Exhibit at NMOA

Guillermo Bert, an artist who was born in Santiago de Chile in 1959, was recently featured at the Nevada Museum of Art (NMOA), in Reno. Carson High School Heritage Spanish 2 students, who had previously studied the artist and some of his works, were able to visit the exhibition Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2024. This evening during the Winterfest Dance in Senator Square, Carson High School named AJ Marhevka and Brooklyn Grundy as the 2024 Winterfest King and Queen, respectively. Additionally, Kekoa Mitchell and Addy Morgan were named the 2024 Junior Class Winterfest Prince and Princess, Alex Martinez and Norah Schultz were named the 2024 Sophomore Class Winterfest Prince and Princess and Cruz Gonzales and Maria Pimentel Avelar were named the 2024 Freshman Class Winterfest Prince and Princess. Freshman Jacob Blandford, French Horn; Senior Drea Cabral, Clarinet; Senior Nathan Parsons, Trumpet; and Senior Tessa Payan, Percussion, all earned a spot in All-State Band, which comprises the top band students from across the state of Nevada. New Leadership for the Carson City School Board

At their first meeting of the year Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024, the Carson City School District School Board of Trustees nominated and voted in new leadership for the Carson City school board. Trustee Joe Cacioppo, District 7, was named the newest president. He replaced former President and now Immediate Past President Laurel Crossman, District 2, as the school board’s leader. Trustees Lupe Ramirez, District 1, and Mike Walker, District 5, were also named vice president and clerk, respectively. Ramirez replaced former Vice President Cacioppo and Walker replaced former Clerk Ramirez. Each of the three leaders will serve one-year terms.  READ MORE...
