Parent Involvement Policy 2021-2022

2021-2022 Parent Involvement Policy

In acknowledgement of reliable research proving that parental involvement raises the academic achievement of students, a major goal of Seeliger Elementary School’s Title I program is to encourage greater involvement of parents in the education of their children and build an effective home-school partnership.

Parents will be informed of the school’s participation in the Title I program, the requirements of Title I, NSPF (Nevada School Performance Framework) and their right to be involved at the Open House/Annual Title I meeting held each year. The meeting will focus on the available instructional objectives and programs, and will be offered at flexible times, as practicable. All information will be available in both English and Spanish. A school wide Education Involvement Accord that outlines how parents; school staff and students share the responsibility for improving learning will be distributed during registration of the student and discussed during the Parent-Teacher Conference.

Every effort will be made to enhance communication with parents. Information and invitations will be sent out in a timely manner. In an effort to honor and respect our limited or non-English speaking families, translations of written materials and translators for meetings and conferences will be made available as practicable.

We will hold a minimum of two scheduled parent conference yearly, where the progress of the student will be discussed as well as the expectations for the grade level school curriculum, test information, alternate assessments, how to work with educators and other concerns a parent may have. Students will receive progress report cards quarterly as means to inform parents of academic achievement.

In collaboration with the community, we will continue to provide information related to resources and services available in our community to aid our families in need. More specifically, Seeliger Elementary coordinates and integrates the following parent involvement teams: Ron Wood Resource Center, Children in Transitions program within the district, Children’s Behavioral Health Services, Nevada State funded programs coordinating with Division of Child and Family Services, and other community organizations.

We will provide a number of opportunities for parent involvement, including PTO meetings, curriculum nights and music/arts programs and activities throughout the year. The purpose of these gatherings will be to provide information and assistance to parents to improve their children’s academic achievement, using technology as appropriate. We will endorse family participation in school decisions, accountability and advocacy through the Parent-Teacher Organization meetings and participation in our Title I program. We will involve parents in the development and implementation of the parent involvement policy and School Performance Plan on a yearly basis. We will survey parents to collect opinions, concerns and suggestions for parent involvement. Survey results will also be utilized to plan programming.

We will continue to encourage and welcome parent and community volunteers to become part of our school family. We will also educate staff on outreach, communication and collaboration in regard to working with parents as equal partners in the education of their children.

Thank you!
