Carson High School (CHS) Speech and Debate wrapped up its third league tournament at Reed High School this past weekend with students advancing into finals in a wide range of speech and debate events. The tournament hosted 16 schools and 184 individual competitors.

More than 500 fifth grade students including fifth graders from all six public elementary schools (Bordewich-Bray, Empire, Fremont, Fritsch, Mark Twain and Seeliger), as well as Carson Montessori, Bethlehem Lutheran and Saint Teresa’s will perform as a unified holiday choir for the annual Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights on the Capitol steps in downtown Carson City Friday, Dec. 1, at 5:30 p.m.

Jacqueline (Jackie) Estrada Diaz is all of the things one expects of high achievers – hardworking, exuberant, persistent, but somehow also she is so much more – resilient, compassionate, inventive, hilarious. Jackie is a firm advocate for newcomer English Language Learners, and as a first-generation student who has only lived in the U.S. for six years, she has first-hand knowledge of the barriers they face.

The Carson City School District, on behalf of the Carson City Schools Foundation (CCSF), is pleased to announce mini and department grant winners for Fall 2023. Each semester, CCSF gives back to educators and students alike. This last semester, the foundation awarded a total of $10,800 in mini-grants as well as grants for a department, school or grade-level project(s).

There were some exciting turkey scientists at Fritsch Elementary School in Carson City this morning as kindergarten students donned sterile gowns and explored the anatomy of the beloved bird. The young scholars also calculated diagrams and created turkey traps as they prepare for Thanksgiving next week.
