School Attendance Matters, Increases Student Achievement

What has the most impact on student achievement? Teacher effectiveness will arguably remain the strongest school-related determinant of student success, but chronic student absenteeism reduces even the best teacher's ability to provide learning opportunities. In short, if a student is not present, not even the best educators can teach them. Therefore, students who attend school regularly will be more successful and achieve at higher levels than students who do not have consistent attendance or are tardy frequently.

In observance of Computer Science Education Week (CSEdWeek), Eagle Valley Middle School (EVMS) students were able to display their coding skills for Nevada Department of Education Superintendent Jhone Ebert Monday, Dec. 5. The activities highlighted computer programing efforts in Mr. Jeremy Smith and Mr. Mark Kuniya’s sixth and seventh grade classes (respectively).

Last Thursday and Friday, Dec. 1 and 2, students at Eagle Valley Middle School had the opportunity to partake in Nutrition Services’ first ever Student Choice “Love It or Lose It” event during lunch where they tasted new menu concepts and voted on keeping it on the menu or losing it.

What she doesn’t share is that she has a strong commitment to her family, is willing to challenge herself and is very modest. From a young age, her parents instilled a strong work ethic, which shows in her levels of responsibility and dependability.

Pioneer Academy Helps 30 Families Enjoy Thanksgiving

The gift of giving was alive and well at Pioneer Academy during the week leading up to Thanksgiving. Thanks to the annual support and generosity of the Hernandez family, Jenn and the managers at FoodMaxx, and the Pioneer students and staff, the school was able to provide a full Thanksgiving meal to 30 families in the Carson City School District.

The Carson City Library’s Pedal Library will be busy delivering books to students attending summer school. Now through the end of June, the teardrop trailer pulled behind a bike will provide up to 60 pounds of books at each elementary school within the Carson City School District. The mobile library will be offering mobile wifi and charging station soon.
