Senior Spotlight: Carson High’s Laura Bennett

This week’s senior in the spotlight is Laura Bennett. Laura is an exceptional young woman; she is a strong student with clear ambitions. Laura’s academics really speak for themselves. She has always been a hard-worker, earning high marks in her increasingly difficult classes. She is on track to earning her Advance Placement (AP) Capstone Diploma as well as completing the Project Lead the Way architecture and civil engineering program. She currently has a 5.2 weighted GPA and is ranked 2nd in a class of almost 500.

Carson High NJROTC Cadets Support Cancer Patients, Spread Awareness with Pink Aiguillettes

In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month this past October, Carson High School (CHS) Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) cadets sold pink aiguillettes to wear on their uniforms with all proceeds donated to the Carson Tahoe Health Cancer Resource Center. The battalion provided an oversized check in the amount of $1,500 to Carson Tahoe Health representatives, Tami Stein, philanthropy specialist, and Paula Mayer, community & foundation development officer, yesterday on the football field.

Pioneer Academy’s Student of the Month for November is Kaitlyn Nguyen. Kaitlyn’s life experience has taught her hard work, dedication and determination to do her best can help her find success wherever she looks. Kaitlyn was eight years old when she enrolled in school in Carson City. She joined the Pioneer academy family two years ago as a seventh grader in the online program and quickly excelled through her classes. Now Kaitlyn is a tenth grade student at Pioneer, dual-enrolled in the online program and in-person at the Pioneer campus. She is currently taking honors classes and college dual-credit courses to prepare herself for the future.

Carson High Speech and Debate Advance to Finals in Third League Tournament

Carson High School (CHS) Speech and Debate wrapped up its third league tournament at Reed High School this past weekend with students advancing into finals in a wide range of speech and debate events. The tournament hosted 16 schools and 184 individual competitors.

Carson City Fifth Graders to Sing at Tree Lighting Event Friday

More than 500 fifth grade students including fifth graders from all six public elementary schools (Bordewich-Bray, Empire, Fremont, Fritsch, Mark Twain and Seeliger), as well as Carson Montessori, Bethlehem Lutheran and Saint Teresa’s will perform as a unified holiday choir for the annual Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights on the Capitol steps in downtown Carson City Friday, Dec. 1, at 5:30 p.m.

The Carson City Library’s Pedal Library will be busy delivering books to students attending summer school. Now through the end of June, the teardrop trailer pulled behind a bike will provide up to 60 pounds of books at each elementary school within the Carson City School District. The mobile library will be offering mobile wifi and charging station soon.
